Bright and Airy
Dark and dated are good words to describe this 1970’s beach house. Having spent numerous summers in this space, the owners were finally ready for a change. They felt the kitchen was old and not very functional and the living area with fireplace was very dark and heavy. The vision for this space was coastal themed with a palette of soft, inviting colors reminiscent of the sand and sea. The owners also wanted to take advantage of the open-plan room and maximize the natural light. We accomplished this by replacing the old brick fireplace with a bright white shiplap accented with hints of Skara Brae stone and extending the kitchen with the addition of a second window. The new kitchen also features open shelving in the place of upper cabinets to help elevate the open, airy style and the backsplash tile was laid in a
vertical stacked pattern to give the illusion of taller ceilings. This bright and airy space will be enjoyed for many summers to come!
